SNOWBOARDER ON TURQUOISE WALL

community Project • 2024

SNOWBOARDER ON TURQUOISE WALL

A high-energy snowboarder captured mid-trick against a vibrant turquoise wall, embodying Colorado's snow sports culture in a single explosive moment. The figure seems to fly off the wall, carving through invisible powder with the kind of freedom that only mountain snow provides.

Artist's Note

Colorado and snowboarding are inseparable. Capturing that rush — the speed, the weightlessness, the absolute freedom of a perfect run — on a static wall was the challenge. I wanted people who've never been on a board to feel what it's like, and people who have to remember why they love it.

— Rachel Dinda

Inspiration

Watching snowboarders at Colorado resorts, that moment of suspension at the peak of a trick when gravity hasn't caught up yet. That split-second of pure flight is what this mural freezes in time.

The Process

The turquoise background was deliberate — it reads as sky, it pops from the street, and it gives the boarder something to launch against. The figure was painted with dynamic, loose brushwork to convey movement. Spray paint provided the snow spray effect, flicked from a loaded can to create natural particle patterns.

Community Impact

The piece has become a photo spot for the snowboarding community. People tag it with their season pass photos and trip reports. It's brought energy to the commercial area, especially during winter months when skiing is on everyone's mind.
