Inspiration
The raw brick surface and the neighborhood's creative energy. I wanted to create something that felt both refined and gritty, polished and raw — a dream painted on reality, with all its rough edges intact.
The Process
Brick is a demanding surface — mortar lines create natural breaks in brushwork, and the texture eats paint. I used this to my advantage, letting the brick show through in areas where it added to the effect. The hair was painted in long, sweeping strokes with a wide brush to contrast with the brick's roughness. The roses were built up in thick layers for dimensionality.
Community Impact
The piece has become a local landmark for its motivational message as much as its visual impact. People photograph it with intentional framing of the word DREAM, using it as a personal statement on social media.
