RISING WITH THE SEA
Rising with the Sea crowns the multi‑story façade with a luminous, turquoise swell that parts to reveal a poised woman emerging from the ocean’s depths, her eyes lifted toward the sky. The emerging woman symbolizes the community’s collective rise as a powerful tide of hope and resilience.

Artist's Note
“Creating the Rising with the Sea mural was my way of bringing the pulse of the Pacific into Portland’s streets, reminding the city that the health of our oceans is a shared responsibility. My hope is that viewers feel both the beauty and urgency of ecological preservation, turning a multi‑story façade into a beacon of community‑wide stewardship.”

Inspiration
Ocean conservation and how we can make small but intentional changes to create a large and collective impact.
The Process
I spent time ideating how to honor ecological stewardship through an image of a woman. The vertical surface was a challenge and a shape I enjoyed planning an image on. Once I completed the plan I sketched the woman’s face, and improvised the flow of her hair, emulating ocean waves.
Community Impact
“Rising with the Sea” and the murals surrounding have become a gathering point in downtown Portland. Residents and travelers walk the area to see the murals and colorful street art. My hope is that this is one of the diverse stories that shape the city.
