Artist's Note
“Social justice work through art is some of the most meaningful work I do. This project wasn't just about painting a wall — it was about listening to a community, understanding their struggles, and translating their vision into something permanent and visible.”
— Rachel Dinda
Inspiration
The community members themselves drove this piece. Their stories about fighting for fair housing, living wages, and economic dignity shaped every element. I was just the translator — they were the authors.
The Process
We started with community story circles where residents shared what economic justice meant to them. Those conversations became the visual language of the mural. I sketched concepts on-site with community input, revised based on their feedback, then painted over two weekends with volunteers helping on background sections.
Community Impact
The center uses the mural as a backdrop for community meetings and organizing events. Staff say it helps new visitors feel the organization's mission before a single word is spoken.
