Inspiration
The center's mission drove every decision. In a place where people arrive at their most vulnerable, the art needs to offer comfort without being saccharine. Simple, bold messages of love and joy cut through complexity.
The Process
Indoor institutional spaces have their own challenges — fluorescent lighting, durable surfaces, and the need for imagery that stays uplifting after the thousandth viewing. I used warm, saturated colors that hold up under artificial light and typography that reads clearly from across the room.
Community Impact
Staff report that families often pause at the mural during their first visit, and it helps set a tone of welcome and safety. Several counselors use the mural as a conversation starter with new clients.
