SHINE YOUR LIGHT
A whimsical winter scene painted during a German street art festival, featuring a young boy walking alongside a friendly robot companion through a snowy European landscape. The piece captures childhood wonder and the innocent belief that technology can be a friend rather than a threat.

Artist's Note
“This was created during a European street festival in Hainburg, Germany, and the winter setting influenced everything. The cold air, the short daylight hours, the way snow changes how colors read — all of it went into the painting. The robot companion represents the future these kids are growing up in, but through their eyes, it's just a friend.”
— Rachel Dinda
Inspiration
Watching children at the festival interact fearlessly with technology — tablets, phones, interactive exhibits — while also playing in the snow. They don't separate the natural from the technological the way adults do. The robot is a friend, same as a dog or a stuffed animal.
The Process
Working in a German winter festival meant dealing with cold temperatures that affect paint viscosity and drying times. I adjusted my palette to work with the muted winter light — colors that look vivid in Colorado sun would look flat under grey European skies. The snowy scene was painted with actual cold hands, which I like to think added authenticity.
Community Impact
Festival visitors connected with the piece immediately — parents saw their children in the boy character, and kids loved the robot. The wall has been preserved by the building owner, which is the highest compliment in street art festival culture.
