BULL PORTRAIT WITH SINGLE ROSE
A large-scale bull portrait paired with a single delicate rose, painted on an exterior wall. The bull's unflinching gaze dominates the composition while the rose introduces unexpected tenderness, creating a visual dialogue about strength and vulnerability existing in the same space.

Artist's Note
“I've always been drawn to the tension between power and delicacy. A bull could crush a rose without noticing, but here they coexist. That contrast says something about the complexity of strength — real power doesn't need to destroy.”

Inspiration
The bull represents raw determination, and the rose represents what's worth protecting. I wanted viewers to hold both ideas at once and find their own meaning in the pairing.
The Process
The bull's portrait required extensive tonal work to capture the muscle and bone structure beneath the hide. I worked wet-on-wet for the softer transitions around the eyes and nose, then switched to dry brush for the coarse fur texture. The rose was intentionally painted more loosely, almost like a different artist's hand.
Community Impact
People read this piece very differently depending on their own experiences. I've heard interpretations ranging from masculinity and sensitivity to strength in gentleness. That open-endedness is exactly what I hoped for.
