WOMAN WITH CANDLESTICK & RAVEN

A mobile mural on a semi-truck trailer featuring a woman with flowing orange hair, a golden candlestick, a raven, and mountain scenery. The piece transforms a working vehicle into a rolling gallery, bringing large-scale art to highways, truck stops, and every community the truck passes through.

Artist's Note

A semi-truck mural is art that travels. This piece has been seen by more people than any wall I've ever painted, because it moves through cities, crosses state lines, and parks in places where people don't expect to see fine art. The woman with her raven is a wanderer — she belongs on the road.

Inspiration

Mobile art has a long tradition, from circus wagons to tour buses. The idea of a mural that refuses to stay in one place, that brings art to people who might never visit a gallery or a mural district — that's democratic art at its purest.

The Process

Painting on a trailer's corrugated steel surface requires different preparation than masonry or wood. I used industrial-grade primer designed for metal, then worked with flexible paints that can handle the expansion and contraction of steel in changing temperatures. The design had to account for the trailer's ribbed surface and integrate the doors and hardware into the composition.

Community Impact

The truck driver sends me photos from across the country of people photographing the trailer at gas stations and rest stops. The owner says they get thumbs-up from other drivers on the highway. Art that moves through the world generates encounters that a static wall never could.
