YOU ARE NOT ALONE

A powerful multi-wall mural for a domestic violence awareness center featuring portraits of a woman with afro and gold hoops, a man with blue locs surrounded by lilies and calla lilies, inspirational text with bokeh lights, and purple pansies. The purple ribbon symbolizes DV awareness while the compassionate portraits offer hope and solidarity.

Artist's Note

This was one of the most emotionally significant projects of my career. Creating art for a DV center meant everything had to convey safety, strength, and hope. The portraits represent the beautiful, whole people at the heart of these stories.

— Rachel Dinda

Inspiration

Survivors I've met inspired every brushstroke. The purple ribbon is the symbol of domestic violence awareness, while the flowers—lilies for purity and renewal, pansies for loving thoughts—represent healing and growth.

The Process

I worked closely with the center's staff to ensure the imagery would be empowering and healing rather than triggering. Each element was carefully chosen to create a space of comfort and hope.

Community Impact

Staff have shared that visitors often pause at these murals, finding comfort in the message 'You Are Not Alone.' The art has become part of the center's healing environment.
