SURFSIDE

A coastal-themed dual facade mural at Surfside Burger Bar in Meredith, New Hampshire, featuring bold SURFSIDE lettering, crashing waves, starfish, and tiki elements. The piece brings beach culture to the Lakes Region, transforming the restaurant into a coastal destination landlocked in the mountains.

Artist's Note

Painting beach culture in New Hampshire was a fun creative challenge. The Lakes Region has its own water culture, but ocean vibes are different — saltier, more tropical, more Jimmy Buffett. I leaned into that contrast, making the mural feel like a portal to somewhere warm.

Inspiration

Surf culture's visual language — weathered wood, tropical colors, bold typography, tiki aesthetics. Surfside Burger Bar wanted to transport their customers, and the mural is the first step in that journey from parking lot to paradise.

The Process

The dual facade presented a unique challenge — two walls meeting at an angle, requiring careful perspective planning so the composition reads from multiple approach angles. I used a sun-bleached color palette that suggests years of ocean exposure, with the tiki elements in warmer wood tones for contrast.

Community Impact

Surfside tells me the mural is the number one reason people stop who weren't originally planning to eat there. It's become a landmark for the area — people use it for directions and meeting spots. Lake visitors treat it as a selfie destination.
