Inspiration
The pure, unfiltered belief children have in magic. Unicorns represent the idea that impossible things can be real if you believe in them hard enough. Every child deserves a room that reinforces that feeling.
The Process
Children's rooms demand non-toxic materials, soft colors that don't overstimulate at bedtime, and durability against curious hands. I used pastel washes for the backgrounds and built the unicorns with enough detail to reward close inspection but enough softness to be soothing at night. Glow-in-the-dark elements were added to key areas so the magic doesn't stop when the lights go out.
Community Impact
The parents tell me bedtime battles have decreased because the child actually wants to be in their room. The unicorns have names, personalities, and ongoing storylines that the child narrates daily. That's the highest form of engagement for a children's mural.
